Thousands of years before the dawn of Conan, barbarian tribes rose across the Thurian continent, threatening the civilizations whose crumbling city walls still stood against them. In The Heavy Bright, masterful cartoonist and animator Cathy Malkasian propels the reader into a lushly watercolor, Ghibli-esque fantasy world tinged with equal parts whimsy and menace. Along the way, she falls for the enchanting Sela, who shows her how beautiful the world can be. Years later, Arna, an orphaned young woman immune to the beguiling power of the eggs, is charged with a monumental mission: hunt down these formidable men, pilfer their eggs, and release the bright from the heavy. A family of brutish men managed to hoard the eggs and build a misogynistic dynasty that held all of the land in an iron grip. One thousand black eggs, heavy as pure lead, which by some mystical property, provoked greed and violence in all who came in contact with them. People trusted and aided each other, dreamed freely, and communed with their ancestors. In this allegorical, fantastical graphic novel, a queer young woman aims to dispel the greed and cruel masculine energy that has consumed the world. JEREMY HAUN always delivers and this is no exception. Features an introduction by Shirley Jackson Award winning horror author NATHAN BALLINGRUD! Select praise for HAUNTHOLOGY: 'HAUNTHOLOGY somehow manages to be deeply personal and deeply creepy and cool. Whether exploring a claustrophobic old house full of nefarious entities or the heavy thoughts one has during the pending end of the world, this very personal project was written and drawn entirely during the COVID lockdowns. Until then, excelsior. From creatures of the night to even more terrifying creatures of the day, HAUNTHOLOGY is an anxiety-inducing collection of 28 short stories and vignettes from the mind of JEREMY HAUN, the writer and artist behind THE BEAUTY, THE REALM, The Red Mother, The Approach and other nightmarish mindscapes. but has yet to receive a live-action version. He was recently a major character in the HBO Max Harley Quinn series as well. He doesn’t have powers but uses kite-based weapons and gadgets. Kite-Man is traditionally a Batman villain named Charles “Chuck” Brown. That one could be any of the previously mentioned. Peacemaker does mention having fought a gorilla at Burning Man that was far stronger. Unfortunately, this isn’t any of the famous gorillas from the comics Gorilla Grodd, Ultra-Humanite, or Monsieur Mallah. The butterflies took over a gorilla from the zoo. Not much of an easter egg, but yeah, he mentions Superman. You can also check out my previous breakdowns of Peacemaker Episode 1, 2 and 3 here, as well as Episode 4 here. In the meantime, you can check out my breakdown of the ending and easter eggs in The Suicide Squad by heading over here. The series also stars Danielle Brooks as Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Harcourt, Steve Agee as Economos, Chukwudi Iwuji as Murn, and Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith. The series will explore the origins of the character that Cena first portrayed in James Gunn’s 2021 film, The Suicide Squad, which is already currently available on HBO GO. Peacemaker  is a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it. I’ll be discussing heavy spoilers so if you haven’t seen it or want to avoid spoilers, now’s your chance to stop reading. The fifth episode of Peacemaker Season 1 is now streaming on HBO GO and HBO Max. ![]()
